Rider-Waite Tarot Cards are among the favorite decks " if not the favorite deck " for use by beginners in Tarot. The simplistic illustrations are full of symbolism. Even color is used symbolically. This makes the cards more informative so more can be divined directly from the cards and less interpretation is required on the part of the reader.
The deck includes 22 cards in the Arcana. The deck consists of a High Priestess, a Magician, A Fool, Death and a Hangman and of course many others. Like all other decks this is also a standard 78 card deck.
The rest of the cards include 56 Rider-Waite Tarot cards in the Minor Arcana. Each minor consists of 4 suits of fourteen cards each. They are Wands, Pentacles, Cups and Swords. Each card on a Minor and Major all have a seperate meaning. Most of the time when the cards are inverted they have an opposite or different meaning.
Certain layouts are needed to help you learn to read the cards. Some will tell you where you are at and whether you will be passing good or bad. Another shows your influence on the present and future. It seems that beginners find the Celtic Cross to be the easiest layout to use.
Practice makes perfect and thats also true with the Rider-Waite Tarot cards. You need to be convinced that you are getting the desired results. You must be happy with the results of the layout. Pick a simple question and dont move to the next one until you are fully satisfied you are getting the right answers. At first you should keep away from yes and no questions and stick to questions that lead to a certain direction.
